Privacy
Privacy policy
Wremote collects no data. Here is what that means for the apps and for this website.
The short version
- The apps collect no data and do no tracking.
- No analytics, no ads and no accounts.
- The apps make no network requests of their own.
- Bluetooth is used only between your watch and a nearby computer running Wremote. Your computer accepts input only from a watch you allowed.
- This website uses no cookies, no analytics and nothing from third parties.
Who we are
Wremote is made by XpressOT Pty Ltd, a company in Australia (“we” and “us”). This policy covers Wremote for Apple Watch, Wremote for Mac, Wremote for Windows (a test version) and this website, wremote.app.
Questions about privacy go to support@wremote.app.
What we collect
Nothing. The apps don’t collect, store, sell or share any information about you. There are no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no accounts.
If you’ve chosen to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone or Apple Watch settings, Apple sends us crash reports and overall usage numbers, such as how many people opened the app. Apple collects and handles these, and we can’t tell who they come from.
The watch app and the Mac app each include a privacy manifest, the file Apple uses to record what an app collects. Both declare no tracking and no data collected.
Bluetooth
Your watch and your Mac or PC talk directly over Bluetooth LE. None of it goes over the internet, through your iPhone or through any server, and none of it reaches us.
- So your watch can find it, the helper on your Mac or PC announces over Bluetooth that it’s ready, with your computer’s name. Nearby Bluetooth devices can see that, as they can for any Bluetooth device.
- When your watch finds a computer running Wremote, it sends that computer its name (for example, “Sam’s Apple Watch”) and its public key, so the computer can ask you to pair and you can recognise the watch in the Allow window.
- After that, the connection carries pairing messages and your input: pointer movement, clicks and scrolling. Your computer accepts input only from a watch you allowed.
What stays on your devices
To work, the apps keep a few things on your own devices. None of it is sent to us.
- Settings. Pointer speed, scroll speed and reverse scrolling are stored on your watch.
- Pairing keys. Each device has its own pairing key. On the watch and the Mac the private key is kept in the Keychain; on Windows it’s kept in Windows key storage for your user account. Private keys never leave the device they were made on. Only the public half is shared, over Bluetooth, with the other device.
- Paired watches. Your Mac or PC keeps the list of watches you allowed: each watch’s name, its public key and the date you paired it.
- The Windows log. Wremote for Windows keeps a log file of its Bluetooth and pairing steps in
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Wremote, so that problems can be found. It includes the names of watches that connect (such as “Sam’s Apple Watch”), your Bluetooth adapter’s ID, the versions of Wremote and Windows, and any error messages, which can include file paths. It never records keys or your input. It stays on your PC unless you choose to send it to us, and you can open it and read it first.
Purchases
The free trial and Wremote Pro come through the App Store, and Apple processes every payment. We don’t see your name, email address or payment details, and Apple doesn’t give us personal information about buyers.
To check whether you’ve started the trial or bought Wremote Pro, the watch app asks the App Store through Apple’s own purchase system. Apple handles that check under its privacy policy.
This website
This site is a set of static pages. It sets no cookies and uses no analytics, tracking or advertising, and no third-party fonts, scripts or embeds.
The site is hosted by Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel processes the technical details needed to deliver a page, such as your IP address and browser type, and may keep them briefly in server logs for security and reliability. We don’t use them to identify you.
If you email us
When you email support@wremote.app, we receive your email address and whatever you include, such as a Windows log file. Our email provider stores messages for us. We use them only to reply to you. We don’t share them with anyone else or add you to a mailing list, and we delete them when they’re no longer needed. You can ask us to delete them at any time.
If you ask us to tell you when Wremote is out, we keep your email address only to send you that one email. We delete it after launch, or sooner if you ask.
Vercel and our email provider may handle this information outside Australia, including in the United States.
Removing your data
Everything the apps keep is on your own devices. Here is how to remove it.
- On the watch, tap the gear, then Reset pairing. This replaces the watch’s pairing key with a new one, so no computer recognises it any more.
- Deleting the watch app removes its settings.
- On a Mac, click Forget next to each watch in the Wremote menu before you delete Wremote. This removes the watch from the list.
- On Windows, click the Wremote icon, point to the watch’s name and choose Forget. To remove the rest, turn off Open at sign-in, quit Wremote and delete the
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Wremotefolder, which holds the list of paired watches and the log. - Each computer’s own pairing key stays in the Keychain on a Mac, or in Windows key storage, after you delete Wremote. It is useless without the app. If you’d like it gone too, email us and we’ll explain how to remove it.
Children
Wremote collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Your rights
Because the apps collect nothing, we hold no personal information about you from them. If you’ve emailed us, you can ask to see, correct or delete what we hold. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
If you’re in the European Union or the United Kingdom, we handle your emails because you asked us to reply (our legitimate interest in answering you), and you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update it on this page and change the effective date. If a change means Wremote would collect any data, we’ll say so clearly here before that happens.
